about soma
SOMA Therapy & Wellness was founded on a simple but powerful belief: there should be no gap between having a safe, inclusive space and receiving effective, trauma-informed therapy.
EVERYONE IS WORTHY OF HEALING…but hard stuff happens. As a result, we don’t always believe it, do we? Belief exists in our thoughts, while the experience that formed those thoughts exists in our bodies. At Soma, we offer holistic, whole-person healing through body-oriented, brain-based psychotherapy that supports both.
Founder Adele Martelle has always believed that healing must be felt, experienced, and lived. From a young age, she dreamed of creating a safe, welcoming space for people of all cultures, faiths, races, and orientations to explore, grow, and heal. When her second-grade teacher asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Adele replied, “I want to help people with their heads and their hearts.” It was an answer so unexpected, it prompted a call home. But her response never changed.
After 11 years in private practice—and once all three of her kids reached school age—Adele opened SOMA'S Norfolk office in 2023, followed by the Fairfax location in 2025. Over the years, the need for a healing-centered, inclusive practice became undeniable—one rooted in neuroscience, attuned to trauma, and deeply respectful of spirituality and identity.
SOMA Therapy & Wellness now serves the Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia (NOVA) communities with trauma-informed care, specializing in:
Experiential Bottom-Up & Somatic Therapy
Religious trauma recovery
Spiritual integration
Sex-informed attachment therapy for couples
HEALING DOESN'T JUST HAPPEN ON THE COUCH. IT HAPPENS IN COMMUNITY...
SOMA is more than a therapy practice—it’s a healing hub.
We believe therapy should be collaborative, accessible, and connected. That’s why we partner with trusted local wellness providers who share our values and vision. Healing shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be communal, inclusive, and within reach. This belief comes to life through our monthly “SOMA Co-Labs”—experiential, community-based wellness workshops offered at equity-based rates.
